New Vistas in Drug Discovery

About the Workshop

The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) at School of Life Sciences, as a part of its training activities is conducting a National Workshop entitled "New Vistas in Drug Discovery", jointly with Department of Systems and Computational Biology and CMSD. This workshop is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT BTISNET), Govt. of India under BIF program. The main focus of this workshop is to train the participants in the emerging areas of target and drug-discovery processes. Drug discovery research has been experiencing a new paradigm shift in terms of both target discovery as well as drug discovery processes. On one hand, protein-protein interaction sites as well as alternate binding sites other than the so called primary binding sites have been increasingly explored as potential target sites for drug design/repurposing and on the other hand, drugs which were withdrawn have been reexamined for their utility to cure diseases other than the ones they were primarily designed. In this workshop, leaders from both academia and industry will be giving talks in these emerging areas.
